Key Takeaways
- Four organizations across agriculture, government and municipal services, and education moved to Xperience by Kentico this cycle.
- Project types spanned the full range: Armor Seed upgraded, Town of Halton Hills redesigned, The Smart Start migrated and upgraded, and OMID launched a brand-new site.
- Structured content took center stage, from OMID's Content Hub workspaces organizing infrastructure projects by sector to Armor Seed's trait-specific product architecture.
- Integrations extended each site's reach, including Swift Digital for OMID's stakeholder communications, Mailchimp and SSO for The Smart Start, and Lucene-powered search for Halton Hills.
Seeds, schools, local services and major infrastructure might not have much in common, but they make for a pretty good Site of the Month line-up.
This month, we’re looking at four very different Xperience by Kentico projects: an agricultural brand helping growers choose the right seed genetics, a municipality making everyday services easier to navigate, an education organization moving forward from Kentico Xperience 13, and a government office responsible for some of Western Australia’s biggest infrastructure projects.
Here’s what caught our attention.
Nobody visits a municipal website because they fancy a little recreational browsing. Usually, there’s a permit to find, a recreation program to book, a road closure to check or a form that needs filling in.
The Town of Halton Hills partnered with Inorbital Inc. to completely redesign and rebuild its ageing website on Xperience by Kentico, with improvements to administration, performance, total cost of ownership and security in mind.
Project highlights
- Complete redesign and replatform to Xperience by Kentico
- Content Hub and Page Builder used to manage a large municipal content library
- FullCalendar for events, Flatpickr for date and time selection, and Swiper for carousels
- Custom multichoice form control from the Xperience by Kentico community
- Built-in email marketing for resident communications
What makes this site a winner
A municipal website has to serve a lot of people looking for a lot of different things, usually with very little patience for finding them. Halton Hills handles that challenge well. The homepage gives timely information such as elections, recreation programs and property services plenty of visibility, while the navigation handles the less glamorous job of making a huge catalogue of municipal information easy to browse. We particularly like that the site is organized around what residents need to do rather than expecting them to understand how the municipality itself is organized. It sounds obvious, but anyone who has disappeared into a government website looking for one form knows it isn’t.

The Smart Start.
The Smart Start faced a decision plenty of long-time Kentico customers will recognize: modernize the platform they already know or use the opportunity to see what else is out there.
After a formal tender process that considered other platforms, The Smart Start chose to move from Kentico Xperience 13 to Xperience by Kentico, working with Zeroseven on the migration and upgrade ahead of KX13’s end of support.
Project highlights
- Migration and upgrade from Kentico Xperience 13 to Xperience by Kentico
- Existing content, media and data retained through the move
- New UI and UX
- Custom form builder for newsletter sign-ups and enquiries
- Mailchimp integration
What makes this site a winner
What stands out to us is the pragmatism of the project. A platform upgrade doesn’t need to mean throwing everything away and starting again just because somebody used the word “transformation” in a meeting. The Smart Start retained its existing content, media and data while improving the experience around them. Newsletter sign-ups sit naturally throughout the site, while dedicated news and resource areas give its education audience useful reasons to return. It’s modernization without unnecessary reinvention, which feels rather appropriate for a site called The Smart Start. Sometimes the smartest start isn’t starting again.
The Office of Major Infrastructure Delivery (OMID).
The Office of Major Infrastructure Delivery may have the most self-explanatory name in this month’s line-up: it delivers major infrastructure. Part of Western Australia’s Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure, OMID manages major projects across health, justice, arts and culture, sport and recreation, and emergency services. Working with ALYKA, it launched its first dedicated public website on Xperience by Kentico after previously housing its projects within the broader Building for Tomorrow website.
Project highlights
- New standalone public website on Xperience by Kentico
- Content Hub divided into Projects, News and Website Content workspaces
- Custom Project content type covering six sectors
- Swift Digital API integration for newsletter subscriptions and communication preferences
- 91% accessibility score, including multilingual functionality
- Google Maps integration
- Dedicated contact and media enquiry forms
What makes this site a winner
There’s a lot to organize here, and concrete may be the easy part. What works particularly well is how OMID turns a large portfolio of infrastructure projects into something the public can actually explore. Icon-based navigation helps visitors jump into the right sector, projects can be viewed by status, and Google Maps adds useful geographical context without asking another paragraph of copy to do all the work.
Behind that straightforward public experience is a nicely structured content setup. Projects, news and general website content have dedicated workspaces, while related news can be connected directly to the relevant infrastructure projects. For an organization responsible for very big and complicated things, the site makes them feel surprisingly easy to navigate. Major infrastructure: delivered. Dedicated website: also delivered.

Armor Seed.
Armor Seed is an American agricultural seed brand headquartered in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Founded in 1977 and operating within a large agricultural cooperative network, the company partnered with Tavant to upgrade its website to Xperience by Kentico.
The challenge here is the sheer amount of technical product information Armor Seed needs to communicate. Its portfolio covers soybean, corn, cotton and sunflower varieties, with different traits designed to tackle different weeds, insects, weather conditions and regional growing challenges.
Project highlights
- Upgrade to Xperience by Kentico
- Product architecture covering soybean, corn, cotton and sunflower varieties
- Trait-specific information built into individual product pages
- Technologies including XtendFlex®, Enlist E3® and SmartStax® RIB Complete®
- React and jQuery front end, with SQL Server and Azure PaaS
What makes this site a winner
What we like here is that Armor Seed doesn’t try to make a complicated product catalogue look artificially simple. Instead, it makes the complexity useful. Individual varieties are connected with the trait technologies behind them, helping growers get into the weeds about, well, weeds. Seller resources go further with practical tools including calculators and commodity market data for crops such as soybeans. It’s a site that understands its audience knows its stuff and gives them the detail to match. No fluff. Plenty of crop.
