Challenges
Racing Queensland’s website needed a significant modernization to meet the growing expectations of its users and internal teams. The migration from Kentico 12 Portal Engine to Xperience by Kentico was a strategic move toward building a future-proof, scalable, and maintainable digital platform. 
 
Improving operational efficiency and risk assessment accuracy were top priorities. The project called for a complete rebuild of both the public-facing website and its administrative components, ensuring the system could better support day-to-day operations and long-term goals. 
 
User experience was another key focus. The site needed to be fully responsive, compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards, and optimized for modern browsers and devices, all to better serve a wide and diverse audience. 
 
Behind the scenes, streamlining content management was essential. Empowering editors with greater flexibility and enabling advanced features within the CMS would help eliminate inefficiencies and support faster, more dynamic content publishing across the board.

To bring Racing Queensland’s vision to life, Zeroseven approached the upgrade with a strategic, phased methodology grounded in collaboration and precision. The team carried out an iterative migration process, running multiple cycles to refine data mapping and ensure accurate content transfer. Everything from page types and templates to widgets and custom controls was migrated from Kentico 12 to Xperience by Kentico. The public-facing site was completely rebuilt with modern layouts, responsive design, and SEO best practices in mind.

Future plans

The iterative approach to data mapping (refined through multiple migration runs) ensured content accuracy, while a final migration followed a content freeze and thorough user acceptance testing. Comprehensive automated and manual testing, including accessibility audits, were integral to validating the site’s performance and compliance, setting the stage for long-term success on the new platform. 
 
With this strong base in place, next steps include expanding the new platform’s capabilities and migrating legacy microsites into Xperience by Kentico channels; consolidating digital assets for even greater efficiency across the organization.
