Kentico
What is Kentico?
Kentico (officially Kentico Software s.r.o.) is a global digital experience company founded in 2004 in Brno, Czech Republic, by Petr Palas. It develops Xperience by Kentico, a hybrid digital experience platform (DXP) that unites content management, digital marketing, and commerce tools in one environment.
Kentico has grown from a one-man start-up to an international organization with offices in five countries, more than 500 certified partners, and over 90,000 websites powered worldwide. Its mission has remained constant: to help people tell stories that change the world.
Why and how did the Kentico brand evolve?
Kentico began as a CMS and quickly became known for combining developer power with marketer usability. Over time, it expanded into a full DXP with integrated marketing, personalization, and commerce.
In 2020, the company split into two product divisions:
- Kentico Xperience – the DXP for marketers and mid-market organizations.
- Kontent by Kentico – a headless CMS for enterprise clients.
In 2022, these divisions became two independent companies:
- Kentico Software s.r.o. (focused on the DXP)
- Kontent.ai s.r.o. (focused on the headless CMS)
This restructure, backed by investors, allowed each business to focus and innovate independently. The DXP division reclaimed the name Kentico, merging its 20-year legacy with a renewed mentor-brand identity centered on guidance, integrity, and innovation.

Fun Fact
Kentico’s very first CMS was stored on a floppy disk as part of founder Petr Palas’s bachelor thesis; and its first commercial client was Gibson Musical Instruments.
“We serve customers who need to stay competitive against their bigger competitors, while operating with much smaller teams and budgets. Over the past 20 years, we democratized CMS and DXP for these customers and enabled them to do more with less. Now we’re doing the same with AI and other exciting advancements in Xperience by Kentico.”
