Cockburn ARC is the City of Cockburn’s leading recreation and aquatic centre and one of the largest leisure facilities in Australia. With approximately 1.4 million visitors annually, the centre serves a broad community across Perth’s southern metropolitan region. The facility includes nine water areas, a six-court stadium, multiple fitness studios and a large gym, making it a key community hub for recreation, health and wellbeing.

How Cockburn ARC increased sessions by 61% with Xperience by Kentico

Challenges

When ALYKA partnered with Cockburn ARC on the project, the organization’s existing website was still running on a legacy version of Kentico that had become unsupported. While Cockburn ARC was comfortable using Kentico, the existing setup had become inefficient to manage. Content was often duplicated across multiple pages, increasing the risk of inconsistencies and making routine updates, such as entry fees, membership promotions, and facility information, more time-consuming than they needed to be. Because of this, it was time for a platform upgrade.

As a high-traffic community website serving approximately 1.4 million visitors each year, the site needed to: 

  • remain easy to navigate for a broad and diverse audience  

  • integrate with Perfect Gym for bookings and availability  

  • meet government accessibility standards  

ALYKA chose Xperience by Kentico as a solution that will stay up-to-date and give Cockburn ARC’s marketing and communications team autonomy, making it faster to manage content without relying on developers for day-to-day updates. 

Solutions

ALYKA’s focus was on modernizing the platform, improving backend efficiency, and creating a more scalable content foundation while preserving a familiar experience for users. 

The site was upgraded on Xperience by Kentico with a structured content model designed to support long-term growth and easier day-to-day administration. Key elements of the solution included: 

  • Implementing Content Hub to create reusable content items, reducing duplication and improving consistency across the site 

  • Establishing a clear content structure and taxonomy to support scalability 

  • Using Page Builder to support faster, more flexible page creation 

  • Building a custom lap lane availability module so staff could manage complex pool schedules directly in the CMS 

  • Integrating Perfect Gym to support bookings, timetables, and memberships 

One of the most valuable outcomes of the project was turning previously duplicated information into centrally manage

Why Kentico?

Cockburn ARC was already familiar with Kentico, and upgrading to Xperience by Kentico meant that the team could keep a familiar ease of use while gaining more advanced capabilities to support their current and future needs.  

Key platform features that made a difference included: 

  • Users and permissions for stronger governance controls, especially important in a government setting 

  • Form Builder allowing the team to create and manage forms independently 

  • Accessibility support including mandatory alt text controls to reinforce best practices 

The project also included integrations for bookings and availability, Google Analytics and Tag Manager for performance tracking, Microsoft Entra ID SSO for secure authentication, and a custom lap lane availability module tailored to operational needs. Together, these capabilities, delivered a scalable, future-ready platform that supports both editor usability and long-term operational goals.

Statistics

Google Analytics 4 data comparing January 1 to February 28, 2026 with the same period in 2025 showed strong growth across key engagement metrics, indicating that users are finding relevant information more easily and interacting more deeply with content.

The following statistics were their most notable results:

  • 90% Silktide accessibility score, up from 76% 

  • 19% increase in users 

  • 61.2% increase in sessions 

  • 61.8% increase in engaged sessions 

Future plans

With a new platform now in place, Cockburn ARC is ready to continue expanding their digital capabilities with plans to explore all their new features. Their team plans on using finding new ways to use Xperience by Kentico to support a better experience for the 1.4 million visitors the site serves each year. The foundation built through this project gives the marketing team the autonomy and flexibility to evolve the site on their own terms to better serve their community.
