ABS-CBN News is the most popular News channel in the Philippines with more than 120-130 million monthly page views. Their former website was not scalable to manage huge traffic volumes, which was necessary with upcoming Philippines elections in 2016. The business goal of this website was to handle at least 300 million page views/month.

Results

The News website’s rank improved to six in the Philippines and 388 globally as of September 2016. These stats are average numbers between June and December 2016.

Any Peak Is High Enough

ABS-CBN News wanted a website that would make work easier for editors to maintain a huge amount of data for all the content types, and to allow for continuous site/page optimizations so traffic can continually grow. Ray Business Technologies optimized templates, implemented custom workflow for publishing using different user roles, and also implemented custom module grid.

From a technical background, it can be mentioned that the website sits on Azure SDK 2.5.1, SQL Azure, Azure Blob Storage, and utilizes Redis cache. These helped with the elimination of deployed servers’ maintenance problems and consequently slow page response.

While our group did have a lot of technical challenges, I am proud to say that the News site that we've built together stood to the test and performed very well, thanks to the collaborative efforts that we've conducted, preparing and maintaining it during this crucial period. The best thing here is we didn’t even need to use the Replica Site and back-ups, everything has been taken care of in our Kentico Live Site.
