Kentico CMS for ASP.NET

Kentico CMS 6 brings many new features that will make your life easier and helps you to publish your content in a shorter time.

It includes new WYSIWYG editor, layout widgets, side-by-side localization, content export/import and more.

New and Faster WYSIWYG Editor

Kentico CMS 6 comes with a new faster CKEditor that replaces current FCKEditor. CKEditor brings several performance improvements together with the support of the latest web browsers.

Create New Pages from Scratch Using Layout Widgets

Do you need to show your content in multiple rows or in columns or in table or in other layout? Just place the corresponding layout widget on the webpage and add the content inside.

With the new layout widgets, you can quickly build new pages without any technical knowledge. You can use the following layout widgets:

  • multi-column layout
  • multi-rows layout
  • table layout
  • collapsible panel layout
  • tabs layout
  • accordion layout

Upload Multiple Files at Once

The new multi-file uploader makes your life much easier when populating your media libraries, document attachments and others places of your website. Using this tool you can easily upload multiple files to any location in the content tree or into media library.

Even more, using the WebDAV browse mode, you can intuitively use your Windows Explorer to manage files of your website directly from your computer.

Enable Content Preview without Accessing CMS Desk

With version 6, you can have the CMS generate a special link that will display a preview of the current version of the page to anybody. It means you can enable people who don't have access to CMS Desk to preview the content before you publish it.

Improved Image Editor: Cropping and Undo

The built-in Image Editor now allows you to easily crop the images – just point and drag to choose the section to be cropped.

Moreover, you can also use Undo/Redo, so if you do something wrong, you can simply get back to the previous version of the image.

Insert Dynamic Features into Content using In-line Widgets

With the new in-line widgets, you can place any widget into the text edited using the WYSIWYG editor. It's useful if you need to insert dynamic functionality, such as a Google map, media gallery or other complex controls and dialogs. Unlike previously used in-line controls, the new in-line widgets provide content administrators with more configuration options.

Improved Management of Multi-lingual Content

The new version allows you to use unique document URLs for every language version. For example, you can use a URL like /en-us/Home or /english/home instead of /Home?lang=en-us. The new URL format also provides better Search Engine Optimization.

The new side-by-side editing reduces the time required for the translation of your website. Now, you can display and edit two language versions of the same document side by side. No more switching between languages.

Organize Documents in Hierarchical Categories

While Kentico CMS supported content categories for a while, you were able to use only a flat list of categories. The new version allows you to organize content into hierarchical categories and create more complex taxonomies, as well as faceted navigation.

Easily Prepare More Valid and Accessible Content

Kentico CMS 6 integrates several services that help you improve the quality of your website content. You can use the following services:

  • HTML validation that checks the document for the (X)HTML validity
  • CSS validation that checks for the validity of  CSS stylesheets on the page
  • Link checker that looks for broken links on the page

Export Data from Listings and Reports

With the new export functionality you can now easily export data displayed in grids, graphs or report tables into Excel, CSV or XML for further use or analysis.

Import Any Data Using the New Kentico Import Toolkit

The new Kentico Import Toolkit that replaces the SQL Import Utility allows you to more easily import any content and data into Kentico CMS database.

Easily Identify Current Status of Documents

Informative icons showing you the status of the documents are enhanced in Kentico CMS 6 with new icons. Newly, you can identify the current workflow status of the document, so you can quickly see if the document is published, not published, archived or if the document is checked-out.

Other improvements and enhancements

  • Single sign-on that allows you to switch between websites running in a single installation without having to log on again.
  • New Relationship editor form control that encapsulate the functionality of the relationship tab into one form control.
